Who is stillwater

One of them leapt off a hotel balcony into a swimming pool. Another almost missed a ride on the tour bus after making a detour to an after-show bash. But during the Seventies, they managed a minor chart hit and released two albums on the same label as fellow Southern rockers like the Allman Brothers Band and the Marshall Tucker Band.

They cut their teeth in rock and soul bands and worshipped the Doors, Eric Clapton, and all the classic rockers whose music impacted that generation.

Many in the band had known one another, or known about one another, since high school days. Dowd squeezed them into the studio early one morning, before a session by other local stars, Wet Willie, even though it meant the musicians had to wake up at an ungodly hour. Gradually, the big-name locals began to take notice. But they were different in a very cool way.

Crowe has no recollection of the comment and has said he based his Stillwater on several bands he interviewed in the Seventies, including Led Zeppelin and the Allmans. In any given year, you could see the Allmans or Elvin Bishop onstage, partake of free weed passed around in plastic baggies, and gawk at visitors from Andy Warhol to Bette Midler.

By the end of that year, the Allmans had collapsed and Lynyrd Skynyrd had suffered a plane crash that killed several of its members. Perhaps, some thought, Stillwater could fill the gap. Their booking agency, Paragon, arranged for them to open for Foreigner, the Charlie Daniels Band, and other major headliners of the day, although few thought they would be openers for long.

Even before Stillwater took their rock-smorgasbord sound on the road, they had their share of adventures, like the night in Florida when Lacey had time to kill before a show and decided to dive into the hotel pool — one floor at a time. I busted the whole butt of my pants. Promoting their first record, they slogged around the country in a movie-Stillwater—style tour bus, and they say the depictions of life onstage and offstage in Almost Famous were true to their experience.

McCarthy says that like many around the globe, he was fascinated by the story. There were just so many layers to that story that kept anyone who was following pretty riveted…. Who are the people that are visiting [her], and what are those relationships?

And so that, I thought, was a really interesting place to put a movie. In Stillwater , college student Allison Abigail Breslin has been imprisoned for a violent crime in Marseille, France—not Perugia, Italy—for five years and counting. The answer is yes, but the band featured in the movie was completely fictional and based on several groups that Crowe covered for Rolling Stone during the early '70s namely the Eagles and Led Zeppelin , among others.

The "real" Stillwater was an obscure multi-membered Southern rock band that featured the triple-guitar team of Mike Causey guitar , Bobby Golden guitar, vocals , and Rob Walker guitar , plus Jimmy Hall vocals, percussion , Allison Scarborough bass, vocals , Bob Spearman keyboards, vocals , and Sebie Lacey drums. Originally formed in Georgia during , Stillwater issued a pair of albums during the late '70s -- 's self titled debut and 's I Reserve the Right! Between the near-hit single and steady opening gigs for the Atlanta Rhythm Section and the Charlie Daniels Band the latter of which was riding high at the time with the monster crossover hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" , Stillwater seemed to be on the right track for breakthrough success.

But when their record label, Capricorn Records, hit upon hard times, Stillwater found themselves without a label, and broke up soon thereafter. Several live tracks from were included on the Alive Down South multi-artist collection, which was followed by a Stillwater reunion the same year. A new album, Running Free, was released a year later, and the group began to play live shows once more.

I remember sitting with Cameron in the studio-just like William with his notepad in the film- and we were fast friends from then on. His joy of music infected everyone on the set. Peter helped these guys become a real band, not just go through the motions. He gave them practical lessons on playing and singing, but more importantly, he taught them the heart of a musician. While Kozelek and Fedevich were real musicians who played bass and drums respectively in their own bands, Crudup and Lee immersed themselves in a crash course in music basics, as well as rock and roll stage attitude.

But he was such a willing pupil, it became almost an intuitive thing. He was jamming with the band incredibly fast.
