Wakarusa promotes a Recycalusa program, with different colored barrels and trash bags to separate trash and recyclables. Attendees will be given two different bags for their campsites as well; blue for recycling and black for trash and food waste. Attendees can pick up more bags at any information booth or at the Recycalusa booth. Full bags will be picked up daily when placed at the nearest black-top road.

The Recycalusa program also recommends using reusable water bottles or canteens rather than single-use bottles, coolers instead of Styrofoam, reusuable tablewear, and ashtrays. If attendees have glass bottles, the Recycalusa program asks that they take them home and recycle them there.
