Ted mosby who is
As for his obsession with 'The One,' he is always letting it take over his life, and, subsequently, making it a matter that his friends and the audience have to deal with.
The worst thing about this is that fans never root for him in either case - the true sign of a villain. On his quest for 'The One,' Ted dates a plethora of women, over 30 over the course of the show's nine years. Of these 30 plus, he treats pretty much all of them like garbage. Whether it is by forgetting "blah blah's" name, dumping Natalie on her birthday twice , attempting to cheat on Victoria with Robin, how he treats Robin as a whole, or being with women he does not want and does not get along with, it's obvious that Ted's treatment of women is less than stellar.
How Ted treats women is part of his hypocritical nature, which also ties back to his treatment of Barney. He is very insulting to Barney regarding how he picks up women, yet he does the same and he doesn't even realize it.
Barney is clear to the gang about what he wants, yet Ted goes on about 'The One' while picking up random women, treating them poorly, and dumping them because they do not meet his standards. Even worse than telling his children about his dating history, drug use, drunken adventures, and history with their aunt, was the purpose of telling them anything at all.
Rather than just wanting to tell a story of how Ted met Tracy , Ted used the story as a way to get permission from his kids to go after Robin again, ruining the finale, and further damaging his character. Ted constantly dates beautiful women, is young, has a home while living in a great apartment in New York, has a career he loves, finds another career he loves alongside this, makes good money, and has phenomenal friends.
He even shares a toothbrush albeit unknowingly He 'loves' women after mere moments, he can't seem to let his friends have their own lives, and he is completely codependant.
One thing that Ted definitely has in his favor is a willingness to put himself out there - and to try new things. He's not afraid to take risks, to take the leap, or to make a commitment early on. He was willing to buy a house on a whim, even though it needed a lot of work, because he knew it could pay off. He takes risks with his work, and starting his own company.
And he and his friends are always doing interesting things, like robots vs wrestlers! Ted has some serious jealousy issues, and it's actually a big problem for him. He breaks up with a woman because he cannot stand the idea that Barney has slept with her in the past even though it turns out that he hasn't.
He was even so jealous over Robin's ex boyfriends that he demanded she give up her dogs because they were gifts from past partners - no matter that for most people, pets are family. Somehow, no matter how often he gets knocked down, Ted stays optimistic But no matter what, he is always enthusiastic except, occasionally, about some of Barney's more hare-brained schemes.
He may not always be the sunniest of guys - and often feels just a little too sorry for himself - but underneath it all is always hope. Ted is, without a doubt, a terrible boyfriend.
His actions are frequently framed as romantic — including the time when he pressures Dr. Stella Zinman, the dermatologist who removes his lower-back tattoo, into dating him They enter a relationship that was basically doomed from the start, and though they end up engaged , Stella leaves Ted at the altar before making a huge mistake by going through with marrying him.
Beyond his aggressive courting — which is summed up by his declaration as he's still pursuing Robin right before her wedding to his best friend, "When you love someone, you don't stop.
Ted dates lots of women throughout the show, and he treats them terribly — from the time he breaks up with a girl on two different birthdays to the time he cheats on his long-distance girlfriend with Robin to the night he goes on a blind date with a girl he's already dated but forgot about. This is to say nothing of his habit of " over-correcting.
A lot of Ted's bad behavior is also evident in the way he not only holds his children hostage for what must be the longest and most meandering story in history, but also what he tells his kids in the first place.
